Haryanvi Ghoomar

My Art & Inspiration

Haryanvi Ghoomar is a traditional Haryanvi folk-dance form.

About Our Traditional Ghoomar Attire

Our attire beautifully reflects the cultural richness and elegance of our homeland. Performers wear a long, flowing skirt called the “daaman,” which allows for graceful movements and twirls central to the dance, paired with a traditional kurta.

Adorning their heads, dancers wear a “borla,” a striking head accessory that enhances grace and provides symmetry to their posture. This is elegantly covered by a delicate “ghunghat,” adding an air of tradition.

Dancers also wear heavy jewelry on their waist, neck, and ankles, each piece meticulously crafted and featuring ghungroossmall bells that produce a melodious jingling sound with every movement. This auditory element enriches the performance, amplifying the rhythmic beats of the accompanying music,

Creative Process

1. Theme Selection

Each piece begins with a thoughtfully chosen theme, inspired by research or cultural conversations with elders.

2. Music Composition

Our music team creates traditional folk melodies (often deriving from pre-existing music) tailored to the vision of the dancers.

3. Collaboration

Close collaboration between the music and dance teams is essential, ensuring harmony in vision and execution.

4. Starting Fresh

At the beginning of each dance season, we often start from scratch, utilizing live music and the creativity inspired by the daamans.
